Methodology. The data used in this tracker was pulled directly from the California Secretary of State campaign finance database (Cal-Access). Campaign finance contributions for the 2021-2022 election cycle were downloaded from the following entities: Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy; Calpine; Chevron; ExxonMobil; Phillips 66; Sempra Energy; Valero; and the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA). Personal contributions made by individuals who listed these entities as employers were removed. Additional contributions from these entities to candidates who were not seated for the 2023-2024 California Legislative Session are not included in this visualization. Contributions with a negative dollar amount signify that the contribution was returned, uncashed, or lost.
